Upcoming DVRC plans

Just to let the members know, we are working with the Camden Aquarium to set up a group tour. I am shooting for early to mid January.

We are also looking to throw a small club/local fragswap. Maybe at a church or school/meeting hall, sometime towards the middle of the winter. My original thought is have a sit down pot luck dinner and trade frags with other locals.
All plans are in the works, and suggestions for activities are very welcome!

A behind-the-scenes thing would be awesome at the aquarium. I like that stuff. Pumps and tanks and earplugs and ro filters 12 foot long? You Bet!
If you set a date early maybe I can arrange to be the days' "volunteer diver". I'll look into it...talk the lead diver to announce "DVRC" from inside the tank.

That stinks I'll be gone the whole month of January, but then again I'd rather be looking at real reefs then drudging through the snow to see them in captivity. :-)

The weekends aren't really available, but I am working with them to get another date, or they may do some special staffing for us on a weekend.
Looks like something we can definetly do though.

I believe they typically are equipped to take 2 divers down and do a presentation in the large (massive) aquarium - the one with the mini ampitheater surrounding a portion of it. Any other divers willing to go down on DVRC day?

I'm PADI certified, and comfortable in the water, but its been two or three years since I've been wet. Would they supply tank and regulator?

Im sure they supply everything... and i dont think you have to be certified either... they get people to pay for the lessons and go down later that day

In addition to a frag swap, it might be a good idea to have an "equipment garage sale" event where people can bring their unused gear to sell or trade.

Are we using that site? I never check it :l

Can we incorporate those 2 types of events into one meeting?

If we could get a large enough space, we could do it fleamarket style... everyone bring a table or throw a blanket on the floor and sell what you have to sell.

If you guys work out a dive @ Camden, I'm sure there would be some NJRC'ers that would be MORE than interested!

That would be awesome!

Congratulations on the new club and forum. I wish you guys the best of luck!

I was talking to Jim (down at World's Largest Aquarium in Upper Darby) about the new DVRC. He mentioned that there used to be a Cichlid club that met at the Springfield? or Marple? township building? But they sort of disbanded and the township might be open to hosting another club?

As you can tell, I'm fuzzy on the details, but a township building might be a good venue for a meeting when we run out of homes to host. Would also work for a table-top swap meet.

ECA has a sidewalk sale (which just happened a few months ago). Maybe we can work something out with them (or another LFS) to 'host' the event?

actually thats a really good idea for the "garage" sale of our used stuff!! give us alot of foot traffic for alot of other hobbiests.
