Dear FMAS Members:
Happy Summer!!
With the summer here, vacations scheduled and Plantation High School (where our meetings are held) closed for the summer, our next general meeting will be on Tuesday, August 24th.
However, this does not mean we will not be seeing each other until late August. We have a couple of exciting upcoming events that we want to make sure that you know about and we look forward to having you join us for at least one of them.
Turtle Walk – Wednesday, July 28 at 8:35 pm
Where: John U. Loyd State Park located at 6503 N. Ocean Drive, Dania Beach, FL 33004. Bring the family and enjoy a night at the beach roasting marshmallows and enjoying the turtle experience.
Fees: Entry to the park 1 car 1 person = $4
Entry to the park 1 car multiple persons = $6
Turtle Event Fee after FMAS Contribution = $5
The club will provide water and marshmallows for roasting. More details and payment information is available at the FMAS Website.
Ken Nedimyer Dive Trip – August 7-8 Dives begin at 1 pm
This is more than a trip, it’s an excursion to work with Ken Nedimyer, the founder of the Coral Restoration Foundation, and to learn more about coral restoration and get some hands on experience. This trip includes presentations by Ken and will be centered around moving some of Ken’s nursery grown corals to a restoration site. The dives will involve preparing corals for transplanting, surveying the new transplant site, and finally moving these new healthy corals into their new home. The tanks and equipment included in the costs will be provided by Worth O’Brien, from Aquanauts Scuba Academy.
IF YOUVE NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS FOUNDATION: click the link for more info.

Fees: Boat Dive and 2 Tanks = $75
Boat Dive and Equipment = $115 Equipment includes: Mask, Snorkel, Fins, Weights, Tanks, BC and Regulator
All this includes a donation from FMAS to the CRF. We will have our own “piece of the reef” by the time this is over.
These events are member’s only events.
Please hurry to sign up for these events because the space is limited. For more details and payment information/links, please visit our website at www.fmas1955.org.
