I hope all is well with all my old reefing (COMAS & OMAS) buddies. I miss you all!!!! I apologize for just disappearing from the club. Health problems have kept me busy and out of the reefing world to some extent. I still have my tanks and they have certainly suffered right along with me.
My mom and I just return Sunday from Denver, CO. where I had a consultation with a Neurosurgeon that specializes in the conditions I have (Chiari and Intracranial Hypertension). Finally, after 10 months of suffering I have the answers to what has been causing my problems and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My mom and I will be traveling back to Denver, CO. the latter part of July (the exact date hasn't been set yet) and I will be having brain surgery. There is still alot of testing that has to be done between now and then. The neurosurgeon said after surgery I will be in ICU for several days and then in a regular room for the rest of a week. We plan to stay in Denver a few extra days after I am released from the hospital to make sure I am stable. The haircut I will end up with from the surgery will be a little like the reverse of a balding man (Did that give you a visual?)
I feel guilty that while being so sick my tanks have suffered neglect. The 80 gallon tank I was working on redoing when I got sick is still sitting in the garage. I had got to the point that the stand and canopy are almost completely sanded and all new T-5 lighting is sitting in my closet. Once I got ill I was just unable to pull the whole "package" together, neither the "do it yourself" part or the picking what to purchase part. I have racked my brain several times over the last 10 months to try to decide who the most competent and fun people in the group are that would also have the time and be willing to help me get the "80' up and running.
I really need to get it up and going before we leave for Denver.
I trust you will al understand and not laugh. A "non-reefer" would think it is crazy. My house has 3 bathrooms, but only one bathtub and my "reefing" stuff has occupied it longer than it shoud. I keep one of the Large Grey trash can barrels full of LR, that I have been stockpiling for the "80", in the tub (in case of a leak). The bathtub is really the only place I have to store it (for one reason or another). This has been an incovienence over the last 10 months, but not a problem. After surgery it will become a problem. After surgery it will be some time before I am allowed to shower. I will only be allowed to take baths. So, I have to do something one way or another with the barrel of rock.
I am not looking forward to the trip back to Oklahoma after surgery. Rough and painful is probably an understatment.
It is pretty scary, but a relief that I may finally get better and back to the things in life I enjoy.
That should be long winded enough for now,
Christy
