Update on they Tigerpyge

Lovely fish, but illegally collected. They're only found in southern Mozambique and here...and neither country allows fish to be exported.

Matt...what is up with your fish?

How is the 180 coming along?

Kevin (flameangel88) had attempted to get an update directly from Fishkid but I don't think he ever responded. He last posted back in October. I am curious about this fish also. I remember Matt having some disease/parasite issues, and then he disappeared. It would be a shame to have such a unique fish succumb to something preventable like fluke or ich. I want a dated pic to verify if this fish is even alive.I am not asking much.

Jason - I have a sinking feeling that the fish and all the other inhabitants within his tanks are no longer living.

He was an avid board member (almost too much) for a while and then all of a sudden nothing.

Vegas has the odds at it being alive 3:2...any takers?

Maybe he will prove us all wrong, but I get that same feeling. I was one of the original posters that got yelled at and was accused of being jealous when I mentioned that maybe he wasn't ready to care for such a rare fish. To be quite honest, even if I had the scratch at that time, I would have avoided the fish due to the pressure by the fish keeping/hobby community (including alot of us here on RC and other forums) to keep such a rarity alive.

It shows last activity on 12/14 and he was asked about his fish on 12/2 and still no answer so I fear things are not well.

Don't give the kid to hard of a time. Atleast he tried to do things right, especially for a guy his age. I have seen many stubborn newbies try and push the limit and not listen to those with experience that were 3x his age. Believe I was one of those a**holes we hate that thought they knew better and would do it there way. If the fish passed, hopefully he learned from it, (quite a costly and unfortunate lesson.) It's great to see a kid with as much enthusiasm as I did when I was his age. T

I am all for a kid having great enthusiasm for this hobby. Believe me, when I started in this hobby I made mistakes and lost fish, but nothing of the rarity, notoriety, and expense of a Tigerpyge angelfish. I just think he should have started with something less conspicuous, and I wasn't the only one who thought that way at the time. This fish was talked about on many forums, and had also been the focus of an article on ************ and the talk of many fish keepers for its rarity and beauty. Again, I hope the fish is alive, but if it isn't....The reality (at least here in the world of RC anyway) will be that he was "the kid who killed the Tigerpyge", regardless of his age or experience. :sad1:

Yeah I don't think he was ready to take care of a fish like that, even though its like a lemonpeel...

I know I had trouble keeping angels alive when I was younger and less experienced. They aren't really a beginner fish. And just the way he updated his thread about it getting sick and not knowing what to do, and how he was all pumped to buy the peppermint angel LA might get, it was annoying.

Learn how to keep the fish before you get spoiled out of your mind with fish you can't keep.

And he was at macna with his macbook and DSLR, I know I don't have those things or the coin for them, along with a fish or even a glimmer of a dream of a peppermint, like really?...

To me it seems like a phase, like "Oh hey I want to keep saltwater fish!" and someone pleased him with whatever he wanted.

Everyone loses fish, and expensive ones suck, but try and be prepared and learn from your mistakes.

You know, there is life outside of this little reef fish board. The kid probably had better things to do than post about his fish on here all day everyday. And with the amount of criticism he received when he purchased the fish, I am not surprised that he no longer posts here. In fact, if I had purchased that fish and had been met with the amount of negative comments that came with the original thread, I would have probably stop posting immediately after that.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

What ALL of us need is positive encouragement...The tone of some of the comments I have watched in this thread have been....well - they looked like jealousy, envy and criticism.....he must certainly have felt pressured...
Maybe he did not have the "experience" some thought he should have...But - that happens every day in this hobby. We all know it.
So - perhaps some offering of help, and gentle encouragement tis the best we can offer one another. We are going to make mistakes.
I am pushing 30 years in this hobby - and I still do some rather bone-headed things occasionally. And if you are honest - you do too.
That what makes us human - not super-human.
My pre-emptive apology is offered to any I offend with these comments. Please feel free to "slap" me every now and then should you see me coming across harshly toward a fellow hobbyist.

I was about to type the same thing. Nobody has experience until they do. Its true that sometimes its at the expense of a rare or expensive fish, but people in their 50's do it just the same as a kid. And dont hate on the kid because he has a macbook and a DSLR. Really? When I was in high school I bought all kinds of awesome stuff that I cant buy now because I pay rent and bills and the such (like my camera setup, and a quiver of surfboards and snowboards and high end stereo gear both home and auto), but in high school it was all disposable income, I may have done the same thing. I just hope the fish is ok, and/or that the kid comes back to chat despite the flaming he took.

All I'm saying was he was spoiled. If you look at that peppermint angel thread he was seriously considering despite not knowing what it needed to stay alive. I think he was willing to spend 8 to 10 grand on it. And sure you bought lots of nice stuff in high school but was it given to you or were you working? Something tells me he wasn't working for his money.

And all I am saying - is it is none of our business HOW he could afford it! Wahat - have we decided to become "classists"? Do you hate or envy someone because thay can afford to buy and throw away what you can only dream of owning?
I don't!!! I am happy that someone can afford those things! Come on! Take a lesson from this - and try to find a reason to like someone - not dis-like, or dis-respect them, o.k.?

Why not try to help and contribute to solving a problem as opposed to carrying a grudge?
