Updated Tank Pics

Laurie, freaken sexy tank. What do you do for husbandry? Can you share any tips to get the corals to thrive like yours? Your maxima touches off the tank just perfect. One of the best tanks I have seen.

Wow, thanks for the compliment! It's definately a work in progress. One day I want to change the aqua scaping to the three mountains look.

I think the secret ingedient for getting your tank to thrive is time, and not skimping on reef maintenance. I mean, the best thing anyone can do for a tank is frequent water changes- it helps my tank so that the chemical warfare doesn't stunt growth or make anyone upset, replaces trace elements, and helps with the balancing of params. I just like doing the water changes, too- and I hand feed alot of the guys that will let me... just because I like to! It's relaxing. The lights and stuff helps, but imo, when it comes right down to it, liking to do my tank maint is the biggest thing my tank has going for it...

I am in the middle of rehabbing a sun coral and a mid size candy cane for a friend who has about the same set up as me. When I got them, the candy cane had one head, and the sun coral had 2 left. Now, the sun coral has like 6 baby heads and 2 adult heads; and the candy cane is about 2/3 of the way back and putting out feeder tentacles again. The only difference really is that I am just always doing the water changes- the corals perked up within the first week and just started regenerating themselves without any real special treatment.

Have a happy day!

Laurie,

Gorgeous Tank!

It looks like a lot of your frags up on the top are glued against the wall. Am I right? What did you use for glue and did you have to drop the water level, as during water changes, when glueing?

Thanks!

Hey guys!

I got the idea from Anthony Calfo's propagation book. In it, he talks about taking a little piece of plastic rod pegging and epoxying it (You can use Krazy Glue Gel, or the others that you rub in between your fingers until malleable- I think from GARF???) to the side of something like the tank overflows or whatever. I didn't even drop the water level- just put a dollop on the end of the peg and then rubbed it against the glass until the friction made it sticky. Then I held it there until I counted 60. It's been there ever since.

Eddy Gray did it in his nano too, with some awesome results... maybe if he reads this he'll post a pic.

I once wanted to do that and make a rainbow of zoanthids on my overflow box, sort of like the zoanthid overgrown pump in one of the TOTM pages here. I think it was Uy's maybe? One day, I'll get around to it...

Was reading another saltwater book and changhed the auquascaping to three mountains. I think I like it better- I actually found I had MORE space for frags without losing any of the rock.

I think the fish like it better also- they haven't been near so timid. My Betta (Comet) has been coming out more, which makes me really happy...
