updating firmware with a mac

Hi everybody Im sure some one asked this before I searched this forum and been trying to call neptune. I kept a PC around to update my neptune controller's. Now the thing blew up and would like to update my apex. It has SW version 4.01 ba09 HW version 1.0. I purchased the New Manual off this site. Which is awesome by the way. It makes things much simpler. FRom that manual I gather you can't update from my sw version to new one with a mac. After my version you can. I would like to plug my mac to the apex directly and up date it.. Can I do this? If So how? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Any of the new versions will support Mac updates. You need Mono or some other .Net emulator. There are instructions on configuring a direct connection between a computer and the Apex. There are also instructions on what versions of Mac O/S you need, Mono, etc.

Take it one step at a time - get the Mac talking to the Apex first. Then tackle the firmware update issue. Or save yourself some grief and get a buddy's PC and do the update that way!

A Mac will work, it's just that you've got some software that you've got to install/configure that comes standard on a real computer.:lmao:

Yes, I own a mac and used to work for apple... it does not work. I think the only effective method is to install VMWare Fusion/partition your drive using bootcamp or some other emulator. At that point you can go into winblows errr windows and then manually configure your ip address/ethernet port and update the Apex to the current firmware.

Thanks for the advise. I love my mac, Don't think I want to play with all that stuff. How about those 275$ netbooks are they powerfull enough to update my apex. I could use it to mapp the fuel system on my motorcycle to.

Yeah, I love my mac(s) too, they are great computers. Unfortunately we live in a PC world, well I dont know about that anymore with the coming of chrome, etc. Nevertheless, once you install mono in terminal.app you will be able to load the Apex Utility, just make sure you try and make sure the IP or MAC addresses are different. That is where I hit a roadblock...

Save your $$ on a new PC netbook. It does work with a Mac but, as mentioned, you need to download and run "Mono" from terminal. It's not hard at all if you take your time. I used my MacBook Air with no issue and it doesn't even have a ethernet port. I had to use a USB--->Ethernet device. I followed the steps in Apex User guide word for word. It's a GREAT "How To"..

I was able to easily update my Apex using my Mac. The instructions are pretty straight forward for doing it with Mono.

Hi all.. Got mad took pc to ho dunk pc shop down road and in 5 min's guy told me power supply was out. Bought a new one. 15 min's and bam, pc running went home tried to update firm ware. No Luck called Neptune at 7:00, Curt picked up the phone. I told him what was going on in 2 min's. I had my network port configured and update went threw like a champ.. Nice to have all the support from this forum And the Builder of a Great Product!!! THANKS Everybody

for some reason I'm not able to update with VMware now. I have been able to do it in the past. I'm not sure what's changed. Anyone else out there have experience with firmware updates using VMware on the mac

I was able to update the firm ware using mono on the mac. Strange why it wouldn't update with VMware fusion

Ok, downloaded mono, trying to update. When I type in mono "Apex Flash Utility.exe", I get a message saying no such file or directory exists...***?

You might need to quote the name because it has spaces; I think the readme mentions this. I used to rename the bootloader to a simple name and use the new name.

No matter what I name the file, it can not discover it. This is simply the file in the folder on the desktop, correct? When I type "mono "apex flash utility.exe"" into Terminal, it should find the file on its own?

Also, anyone know how to stop anything running on the 224.0.0.XXX ip address when using Parallel? It is a multicast address, which I know nothing about.

Ok...got it to open in Mono, but now I get the message "Could not find file "/Users/computername/aqua4.hex" even though I am picking out using the "Browse" option...

BTW, the only way I was able to open it using Mono was renaming the Firmware Update to update.exe, and drag and dropping that into the Terminal to establish the pathway...

I have given up...ok, the bit about creating building an Apex boot loader entry, when I type this in Terminal...

SUDO arp ñs <10.0.1.6> c:1d:12:e0:1f:10

I get no such file or directory.
