Been toying with adding an ATS to my sump but sump space available pretty much kills the waterfall type. Started looking at Upflow ATS but I hesitate to add an air pump and wondered if anyone has successfully powered an upflow unit with a 300-500 GPH hobby pump. The screen would be inside an acrylic box (10"x11"x1.5") which is inside the skimmer chamber flat aginst the side glass with the lights outside the sump flasks shining into the box. Everyone seems to use a big airstone and pump to create a bubble curtain flowing up the screen from the bottom. I would prefer to drive it with a small hobby pump like a Rio 1200. It appears the big difference would be the bubbles and possible increased availability of CO2. Anyone have a thought.
