Hi all. Not sure if this was correct place to post but thought this would be the spot for best responses? I am fairly new.. 4 months. Currently running 75 Gallon tank. HOB skimmer (sea clown..arghh).. 75 lbs live rock..2 clowns, banded shrimp, blenny and blue hippo. I am upgrading soon to 180 and need some assistance? 180 will have basement sump 70 gallons +?? New skimmer (not bought yet).
Problem 1 is my new tank needs to go where my current tank sits. Any help with questions below greatly appreciated.
1. Will I have to cycle the new tank before transfer of current livestock/live rock/live sand?
2. If I have to cycle will just transfer sand and/or rock to new sump work? How abt using water changes of current 75 gallon to partially supply the new tank (after test for nitrate/ammonia etc)?
3. I have sugar sized granulars sand bed. Is this more PIA then its worth? I keep getting dreaded sandstorms. I am sure I can eventually adjust this out with the new tank but is it better to go with larger grain sand?
