I have a 55 gallon tank with a hang on bio filter. The tank has about a 2 inch sand bed with about 100 lbs of LR, 5 or 6 corals and about 10 fish (clowns, blenny, 1 Wrasse. 1 Hawk...). The tank has been running for about 1 year.
I have purchased a new Aqueon 90 gallon pre-drilled tank and am currently building a new stand for the new tank which will have a sump and small refug. I would like to put the new tank in the same place the existing tank is now, but I had thought it would be a good idea, to run the new tank setup next to the old one for a few weeks with new sand with a small amount of sand from the old tank. On "move day" I though I would partially replace the water in the new tank with the water from the old tank.
My question is - is there a safe way to move the new tank a few feet after the old tank is empty and moved away. I had thought of putting casters on the stand I am building but on second thought realized that it is not a good idea to move a filled tank as I can end up breaking the tank and have a catastrophic failure.
