UPS decides to take the day off -- Goldflake suffers

So, I ordered a juvenile goldflake from DD Friday. It was scheduled for delivery today at my office where I keep my QT. When my UPS guy didn't show at his normal time, I check the tracking info on line and it reports: Delivery Rescheduled Due to Holiday!!

I called UPS customer service and the recording says that due to the holiday, no ground shipments will be delivered. I got ahold of a live body, explained the issue -- a live, expensive, animal is in your care, it was shipped next day air and it must be delivered today. I asked if I could pick it up but was told the center was closed. The response was the center was closed but "someone will get back to you". So far, almost an hour later, nothing.

I called DD customer service, hoping they could pressure UPS from their end. They must be a huge customer. Unfortunately, I was told there is nothing they can do except refund my money if the fish dies.

I am not happy. Neither, I'm sure, is the goldflake.

that's terrible. I was going to order the powder blue they had on Monday but decided against it. glad i did

UPS sucks I got 2 overnight orders today. 1 from Liveaquaria and 1 from Extreme corals. Both boxes were handed to me with water dripping from them, 1 side of each box was soaked. Corals were almost in no water, I said to the guy I am not accepting these, they were in your care and look like this. I had to argue with him to file a damage report. UPS blows.

Odd, I just received a Live Aquaria order today At 11:00am overnighted from CA so UPS wasn't "On Holiday" here. Placed my order Sunday evening. It wasn't either of my regular UPS guys, it was a UPS truck from where the airport is that made the delivery so maybe you have the same thing going on with a non-regular driver? Besides the guy carrying the box to my door with "this side up" facing down my fish were fine.

don't get me started on UPS, it took them 5 days to get live rock from Premium Aquatics to my office by ORD.

I put my home zip code in the shipping address & they aren't smart enough to fix the problem when I called to tell them & said it will get fixed when it arrives at the delivery station. Needless to say it was late getting out to our station & sat inside a trailer all weekend with temps close to 100.

You might have to pick it up on Thursday. I told them I would pick up my package if it arrived earlier & they held it off the delivery truck on Monday saying it was a customer pick up so I had to swing over there myself.

Same here. Placed an order with them on Sunday, shipped out on Monday, and then arrived a little before noon today. I couldn't pick it up at the depot like I usually do (that was closed), but the drivers are working today.

A friend of mine ordered some stuff via Fedex, and they are open today & tomorrow, depot & all. It does suck that LA chose to switch from Fedex to UPS, but my understanding is it was a money saving measure.

That's terrible news. Can you see on the Tracking where it currently is? Is it at your local UPS centre. I would personally keep calling them, as I wouldn't trust UPS to call you back. It's still early there, you'd think you could go to the UPS facility and they could send someone to retrieve the package, but I'm no expert. Keep us updated.

For what its worth - one of my buddy's that breeds amphibians was talking to a delivery driver (will not name the company) the other day - the guy apparently has 15 trucks worth of packages at the warehouse that were due before xmas - overnight, 2 day, ground - and they haven't even gotten through those yet. You have seen the news stories about UPS and FedEx - order at your own risk until they get this sorted out. The shippers can't even get square with vendors like Amazon yet. Chilly weather ain't helping things either...

After three calls to customer service, I was finally told by one brave woman that the guy who told me that I would get a call back was not telling the truth, my package is now scheduled for Thursday delivery.

I left the office dejected and angry.

An hour and a half later, I got that promised call from UPS, they said they had tracked down my driver and arranged for him to call me to meet him somewhere on his route to pick up the package. It's now 3:50 p.m. here. Hopefully this will end well.

It also doesn't help that all these companies are putting out great deals and everything goes on sale. The shipping companies get the blame but they have to deliver millions of packages in 2-3 days. It's order at your own risk. To the original post, I hope your fish arrives alive and ok.

Man I know that feeling all too well. Packages that were supposed to get delivered that didn't. I can't say I haven't stood outside of the facility waiting for all the trucks to come back and find the particular driver that had my route to get my package...

I hope it ends well for you, Good luck!

Unbelievably good news. The driver called and we met on the street a few blocks from my office. He had no excuse, but apologized profusely. I don't think he saw the words "live fish" on the box. Lol. A few minutes later the support guy called to make sure everything was ok. All in all, I am not unhappy with the company. One employee messed up but they made good.
Anyway, the goldflake came through like a champ. Was not stressed, acclimated well and is swimming around the QT pretty boldly. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Cute little bugger.
