Happy New Year everyone! Wondering what species this hitchhiking urchin I found the other day is? Came in on some Florida live rock from my lfs. About the size of a nickel. Thanks for looking! Good? He hasn't disturbed anything yet hanging out on some zoas in this pic.
Rock boring urchin, definitely. They're harmless enough, although (as their name suggests) they dig a hole in the rock to hide in. Makes them pretty hard to spot sometimes.
Anyone know how venomous they are? I'm guessing not very as I have two puncture marks on my index finger from handling rock prior to noticing him and didn't even feel them.May have just grazed him though? Bee sting? Thanks
