My brother was cleanign his tank and didnt see his urchin and hit it pretty hard. and the urchin left some of his quills in him. the urchin is the black dont know the name of it. what is the best way to get them out, and are they dangerous?

I don't have answers, but I sure hope he's not waiting for an answer here before taking them out ;)

How did it go? any reaction to it?

I have had hundreds of them suckers in me from diving.
The quills will disolve in time with no problems. They are too sharp and brittle to remove. Of course remove anything sticking out. I usually get them in my belly from trying to get over a shallow reef in rough water.
Some quills are poisonous but the pain would have been immediate, most are just calcium.

Is it diadema or long spined sea urchin same urchin different names.
They are slightly venom tipped no more than a bee sting.

Wax like the kind women use on their legs will remove most spines from the surface of your skin. Works good on cactus spines as well.
