urchin spawning?

Last night my black longspine urchin was next to my water return releasing sperm. Is that a bad thing or should I get another urchin for him? Will it hurt anything or just be food for my corals?

If too much biomass is released into the water it could really mess up your water chemistry and over load your skimmer. Contact Paul B to find out more. He use to have an urchin collecting buisness.

I thought it was just waste. What is biomass and what causes him to do this?

Biomass is organic material. The sex cells will begin to decompose in the water. This can cause low oxygen and your tank to crash. It is probally not a problem in a 500 gallon, but would really do damage to a 5 gallon.
