Urgent: Help with Crocea

mbbuna - thanks for the links...

I moved the clam up high in the tank .. about a foot under the lights. I'm hoping that should be enough. My only concern now is the flow and the possibility of it falling. There is much more flow in the area its in now... theres a Tunze 6000 right nearby... what are signs of too much flow, just not fully opening? I'll post a pic later when all of the lights are on.. the following pictures are where I replaced it under only half the lighting. You can also see.. I put it on a little rock fragment.. so if need be, I could move it later.

Alright... well, after reading the threads, it didn't seem as though there was a known cure. It seemed FW dipping with lugol's worked for some... but I don't know how else to go about it?

The clam looks worse ever since I moved it up in the tank. More tucked away and pinched.

Help!

ok now that uv read the thread i would sudges to give it a 30min fwd ,match the water temp and ph.then u will need to start the metro treatment in a QT. sorry that i didnt sy this at the start but as u found there is no sure fire cure yet ,this is a live and learn type of thing now. ive just finished our metro treatment after almost 6 weeks and i think that we have had great success:)but i didnt want to say "this what u have to do" because i dont think any one knows yet what has to be done. bye the way if u read the reeffriontiers thread im chris and barb. good luck and keep us posted

I'm still not sure what you mean by "metro treatment". I must have missed that in the threads. I am going to FW dip it for 20 min to see how that gores.

Is it possible it is receiving TOO MUCH light. It was looking SO MUCH better only yesterday before I moved it! I did do a 20% water change though, which could have stressed it out.

I have a bunch of junk in my tank... I thought it was diatoms, but it seems to be growing over my corals (not sure how to tell if its dinoflagellates)?? It grew after a pump ran dry for about a day, and bubbles were everywhere in the tank. I tried siponing out as much as I could.

BTW- I have already noticed my scarlet cleaner shrimp poke around in the clam on more than one occation. Could it be helping or harming it?

Not non OD T5.

Let it settle, give it a few days.

It never helps, but it doesn't necessarily harm it either unless it's really stressed out.

reread the thread, did u go to the reeffrontiers thread, metro treatment is METRONIDAZOLE. its an antibiotic,ur still going to need a QT tank to do it. FWD will help short term but next week u will be back where u are now.

shrimp and crabs pick at stressed clams not healthy ones a clam with PM is stressed.signs of PM are retracted mantle, upward and inward curling of the mantle, slimmy muceous secretion from where the shell and mantle meet and most of the time that has micro bubbles in it

Ughuh.. I just shaded it with some window screen... and I guess I'll remove some of the screen tomorrow.

It sounded like this protozoan is contageous if other clams are added to the trank. Will they die like a parasite if they don't have a clam host? Or will they just be running around the tank waiting until I add another damned clam???

Should I hold off on feeding it DT's for a while? Should I wait for the foot to firmly attatch before removing it from the tank for the dip. First I'm going to attempt the FWD.

Thanks

I'm two seconds away from cooking this thing on the stove.. I ****ING HATE CLAMS!!!!! The bastard wont stay put. It's damn hard getting the stupid thing to rest without falling ... so that it could have time to latch. I tried putting the stupid rock in the sand already and putting it on top. Having it on a hard surface just makes it too easy to topple over! Screw this, its not worth it.

wedge it between 2 rocks, but not so tight that it can't open.
oh btw.
Tell us if it tastes good. ;)

playdope, take a deep breath!!! u are not going to fix this in one night .i treated my 20 clams for 6 weeks.
p.s. dont cook it send it to me if thats where u are.

WOW, gave up after 48 hours.... Really man people are trying to help you out here... Nothing other than bad things happen quickly in this hobby.. Please take a step back from your tank, and listen to the people trying to help you... Their may be nothing worng with the clam, it is really too early to tell.. If you keep moveing it around and changeing things it will never look healty... Give it a day or two to at least get used to your tank....
