after having my wild mated yellow stripe maroons for almost 2 months and really working to get my nitrates down i finally was able to get a RBTA and after about an hour of being in the tank the clownfish started taking notice and going inside of it. my problem is the female will not let the male get even close and if he does she attacks him pretty badly!

i woke up this morning and found that my male is missing fins and this is still going on after trying to give them some time to adjust to it. what do i do here? i really dont understand as this is my first anemone with mated cllowns. but they were doing great together in my tank before i introduced this anemone?

please help

perfectly normal...you're obviously not married...

just kidding! (mostly)

this will/may occur for some time...she's establishing a different dominance (this is MY house...you can live in it when i say you can).

if he gets pretty torn up, you may do well for them to have a 'trial seperation' to let him heal and for her to get over the newness of the nem.

Just like i always go away on business the third week after we move into a new house :)

just kidding! (mostly)

normal actions, just dont let her tear him up too badly. keep an eye on water parameters (other stressors may impact his ability to heal or could increase his chances of infection) and feed well, which always seems to help some--just don't let that start another nitrate issue.

good luck, post pics,

I agree with timrandlerv10 - other alternatives are:
1. Get another BTA for the male (although the female my try and dominate both so put them an opposite ends of the tank).
2. Use egg crate to create a separater for the tank to keep the male away from the RBTA until he heals.
Basically, he is going to keep trying to get into it and she is not going to let him until they are completely bonded.

Good luck and happy holidays!!!

ok, so this is all normal and the only other thing i can do is to buy another anemone for the male to call home? i dont have another tank or a way to keep them apart right now so are those the only things i can do. they seem to be doing alittle better but she is still attacking him and tomarrow is the last day i can buy a second anemone until after the holiday.

thanks again

no, not a second nem. eventually she'll let him in. it took mine a few weeks :(

anything to keep him protected if she's still freaking out...what tank are they in? the 55?

if he gets really beaten up, maybe you can move him to the 30 for a bit...but that should be your absolute last step--the stress of acclimation, etc. would be very detrimental. maybe somebody will chime in on ways to protect him.

the clowns are in the 20g tank now. the 55 is having problems and i cant keep the anemone in it. the 30 gallon is a frag tank and cant have anything else in it, it is fully stocked. so i really dont have any way of getting him into another tank or anything.

they were doing great until i put the anemone in the tank so maybe they will get over it. i just really dont want her to kill him cus i waited for like 6 months to find a wild mated pair of yellow strip maroons. i wanted to try and get some babies outa them. i also dont know of any LFS that even has another pair or can get them right now.
