Use carbon? biowheel?

20 gallon reef, full of LR, softies, a few leathers, green star polyps, and 4 fish (percula, purple pseudo, bicolor blenny, and watchman goby).

I have a hang on filter, the one with a bio-wheel.

1) should I remove the wheel? I think I've heard that they just increase nitrates...

2) should I even use the carbon in the filter media (the prepackaged, "cartridge" with the blue colored floss material with the carbon inside)? If not, just use Chemipure or something similar?

Ive been told to toss the wheel, I did.I have 2 hang on filters. One has live rock rubble and the other I use carbon. I change my carbon filter at least every 2 weeks. Never any longer. It seems to be doing well for my 20.

I hear the rumor on the wheel all the time, but have never had any trouble with mine causing nitrate problems.

If you have a fair amount of live rock, though, I can't imagine the wheel has much incremental benefit.
