Used tank fix up

Im fixing up a 105gal glass aquarium with a center brace on top. The plastic bottom border trim was damaged when I got it so Im removing it all. I am building the stand now with the intention of having the stand with a 1/2"-1" lip surrounding the tank. My question is, do I even need to replace the bottom trim since there is a substantial center brace on top? if so, I just get a frame from glasscages.com or somewhere and silicone it on? I need to get this figured out before I can continue with my stand build. Thanks
