Using a mirror as a baffle for sump?

Heyy,
I was just about to add the baffles to my sump and i wanted to use a mirror for a baffle for the refuge section
Is it safe?

why? you can get a piece of glass or acrylic at Home depot for under $4.00. is there a reason you want to use a mirror? or is it just what you have laying around?

I have it laying around and i figured it would reflect light back into the refuge?

i dont see a reason why it could hurt, might not reflect that much light back but i guess its better then none. maybe someone else will chime in.

i was thinking that especialy if it was just a mirror lying around. you could prolly find some kind of reflective coating to spray onto a piece of glass or acrylic that is reef safe to use if you really want the mirror look. but as paulie said i think most do have metal on the backs

though im not sure if there is any type of paint, let alone reflective, that could be put in water and not leach anything over time.. :/

i catch a few small things now and then..chef i work in a resturant and someone was allergic to soy oil...so when made it all special but the bread we make has soy oil in it lol so i caught it be for it went out...sorry to get off topic.

Mirrors are coated in silver--that's what makes it reflect. Salt water corrodes silver. Putting anything other than an inert material in your sump would be completely stupid IMO.

that is my guess...what if someone else thought of it and did not ask first...maybe they will see this and it will save them...there for it was not a stupid idea. - Just was not sure about it...i think we all have been there at one point in this hobby.
