using additives with TBS rock

Hey everyone
I have had my TBS for 9 months now and I just want to ask a question of two about additives. My rock still looks great however, is there anyone putting any additives in their tanks. to help their TBS rocks along. If so, which additives are you using and why.

Hi,

My TBS tank is two years old now and I add nothing but kalkwasser daily and change 9% of the water every two weeks. As far as the TBS-specific life-forms, my sponges are still going strong but my bivalves have mostly died by now. Most all the corals that came on the rock are still doing fine. My 40 or so hitchhiker porcelain crabs are down to maybe 15. Normal attrition I'd say.

Not exactly answering your question but I thought a datapoint with no additives might be helpful.

We drip kalk, have to add turbo calc to keep the calcium levels up, add buffer as needed and I add Lugols once a week. Our tank is about 9 months old. We still have almost all the bivalves, lots of sponges (some come and go) and some great dictyota has just spontaneously sprung up on the rocks. Our rocks are almost completely covered in coralline algae...even a couple that we put in the tank in april that originally looked like hunks of concrete. Our hitchiker brains are doing awesome. We don't have any crabs that I can see but that's because of our harlequin basslet....he ate them all. :)

I had pt. 1 of the package for about 8 mos. have been adding
seachems reef complete,carbonate,plus. for 3 mos. on the adv.
of lfs store. very happy with the results. growth rates of the
all the life on the tbs rock has improved by 3 times atleast.
test your water for cal. alk. if low you need to raise them. lfs
did the tests for free. reef plus is vit. supplement. I an not a
expert but this stuff works. very cost effect.

I use kalkwasser in my autotopoff water, and use the homemade 2 part you can read about in this months ReefCentral Mag. I dose it with a surplus medical pump, split into two one gallon milk jugs, one contains alkalinity, and one contains calcium. Works very well.
