Using coral skeletons in Ca reactor???

As I have been trimming back my overgrown sps and even getting rid of a few larger colonies that had that beautiful shade of brown....I ended up with a pile of coral skeletons. I was wondering if anyone is recycling these skeletons in their calcium reactors? Is there any danger or problems with this. If you are using them, are you cleaning them before and, if so, how are you cleaning them before use...
