using revive and AEFW question?

well had AEFW foudn them on 2 colonies. Bought revive and did a dip about a month ago. threw the ones which i found eggs on and dipped all other colonies. pulled them out of tank and put into a QT tank. now i have done two more dips since then and havent found one worm coming off of any of them. But i am still seeing the white dots on the acros. Can something else cause those?. I use about a cap and a half of revive in about a 1/2 gallon and they sit in the for 10 minutes, in which i use a baster to hitthem with water.
 
i had journey of afew and had the same issue.. i dipped the 1st time and a bunch dropped off but then the 2nd week dipping nothing but then the 3rd dip some more fell off.. i dipped for about 3 months to make sure any unhatched eggs hatched and the babies being killed.. i also pick up a melanarus wrasse
 
the bite marks arent going to go away in a few weeks.it could take 2 months or more for them to heal.i would continue to dip them every two weeks for at least 5-6 months to be sure while QTing.
 
Imo aefw should be dipped every 4-5 days for 3 months to make sure you get them, so many people think they killed them but they are always in the tank
i see to many people even break down tanks and start fresh because it is a pain in the a@@
 
aefw suck. Ok, actually, they chew. The flesh of acros. Grrrrr. :uzi:

Repeated dips 5 days apart until you go over a month without seeing any.

The goal is to kill newly hatched ones before they can lay eggs themselves. Only then will you break their life cycle and irradicate them.

Turkey basters and wrasses can help keep the numbers down, but repeated regular dipping is the cure. And a large p.i.t.a. if one is fortunate enough to have many acros.
 
yes on my 4 dip this weekend so hopefully we will see wat happnes. Didnt see nay the second or third dip but waiting for any eggs to hatch if any, hopefully i got rid of all the eggs that wuld be great.
 
I'm starting the AEFW dipping journey myself and wondered about this: if you have quite a few acros, do you set up a separate tank and dip them all at once, or do you pull a few out at a time, dip them, and return them to the larger tank before getting the next batch to dip?

I know with levamisole it makes sense to mix a big batch of water and dip all at once, but I'm not sure what's best for products like revive or TMPCC.
 
i didnt have room for a separate tank so i just took out each frag every week and dipped and made a fresh batch with revive for each group of sps i dipped.. and turkey basted.. and then threw them in a bucket with tank water and continue to bast to clean off any residue left from the revive and any left over aefw

I thought Revive from TLF is a cleanser and won't kill these pest,'m I wrong on this?
Been using CoralRx but could give Revive a try if that even works better...
 
I use Melafix Marine. It seems to upset aefw more than coralrx, meaning I see flatworms in the dip bucket but none in the rinse bucket, whereas with coralrx occasionally leaves a flatworm in the rinse bucket.
 
At this point, will try anything, and since I have to dip so many times, will use alternately with any other products reefers have good result with...
 
The best results I had is with the bayer inscet killer. There is A thread on here somewhere titled alternitive treatment for red bugs.
 
dip you corals once in a 50/50 of tank water and peroxide and they want be there anymore..i was so scared to try this,but it works 100%....ive only had one cultured piece come in with worms but they are gone now.....only leave in for about 10 seconds...

How about the eggs, will it destroy them too?
 
I've been using Revive to dip for AEFW and it does kill them, not the eggs though, those need to be scraped off. It takes being in the dip for about 3 minutes before the AEFW come off the coral and start to die on the bottom of the container. I do this every 4 days roughly.
 
Ive only done it 1 time,however I have a buddy that had to do it to a bunch of acros and he's the one that told me to try it..dont think i wasnt like ***? but it worked...you may loose a lil color for a few weeks but its better than loosing the coral all together....50/50...dont know how big of an acro your dipping but get something big enough that you can cover the acro with the mix in..only leave in for about 10 seconds and i promise you want have anymore worms...now the eggs you will probably have to scrape off because they are like glued to the colony,but the worms will be floating in the mix when you pull the acro out of the water...oh'' yeah,and if you have any acro crabs in this piece i would suggest trying to get him out with tweezers or kinda lightly poke at him till you can get him to fall out so he dosent wind up like the wormies....if you try this,let me know how it works...
 
I would be very cautious about using peroxide especially with only an example of one person using it once. Revive and CoralRx have been proven to kill them and far less hazardous to corals.
