My newish (3 weeks) utility sink that I mix salt water in is leaching ammonia or ammonium into the water, reaching a steady 0.6 (roughly) ppm after about 10 min. That's as fast as I can fill it really. Interestingly, my recycled Instant Ocean Sea Salt buckets leach ammonia as well, though roughly half the ppm. It's high enough that from a fresh 90% water change, the ammonia in my tank diverges high, out of control. I can't get it to zero. I do have some small plastic buckets that don't leach ammonia/-ium, so I know some plastics don't have this problem.
I want to get a dedicated container to mix salt water in. I have a 28g nano that is the site of the ammonia battle, but I plan on a 200g display tank plus refugium in the future, and I'd like to keep that size in mind
Can any old hands offer some direction on how and in what you mix your sea water in?
My thanks ahead of time. Thanks to my wife too, if she ever reads this. She's done much of the sleuthing of my ammonia problems.
