UV in the refugium

Hi, I am about to convert my sump into and refugium to control the algea growth in my tank. also to have copepod for the corals. My question is can I leave the UV on 24/7 in the refugium or should I just take the UV out. will running it 24/7 kills all the copepods? thanks

yeah it cancels out the fuge. for example the planktonic animals that find refuge (thus the word fuge) in thre get blasted by uv and killed. most use uv in fish only or before sump in the line. id keep it out and use it for issues like when fish get infected with parasites. or in the holding/quarentine tank!

IME I have run a UV in my refugium and still had great pod production.

If running in the refugium make sure to have it inline with a good water polisher so none of the refugium crud passes through the UV, getting the sleeve dirty and providing a hiding place for bacteria's and such so the UV is not effecctive.

Also if the UV is run at a higher flow rate it will not kill pods. It is only effective against larger organisms if it is run at a flow rate for parasites.
