UV & Ozone for Ich

Hi All
I have a 50g reef tank and I think I have an outbreak of Ich. The fish are all behaving normally and feed but there are spots on my Long Nose Butterfly and on a Blue Chromis. I had an outbreak in the tropical tank and it was obvious what it was, but this looks a bit different.
I am running a TMC Vecton 400 UV Steriliser and an Ozone generator, will these help?
I know Ich treatments are copper based so I am screwed due to the carpet anemone, LPS, SPS and other inverts. Unless I can quarantine the fish, but have you ever tried to catch fish in a reef tank!!
Any help would be much appreciated

if you are running UV and Ozone, and have a ich break out, do you think they are helping ?

look up fish traps, can catch almost any fish with it if you are patient.

They'll both kill whatever enters them at the right dose and flow.

However, it's highly unlikely that you'll catch an effectual amount.

Exactly. And due to the nature of the life cycle, tomites are susceptible to the UV and ozone for a very small period of their life.

Thanks all, would the fish be behaving differently it it is an outbreak? In the tropical tank the Tetras used to "flick" a lot

It doesn't hurt to run them, if you can't catch them, just continue feeding them and hope they are strong enough to build an immunity to it. So long as they are still active and eating, they have a chance.

With a lot of experience you can learn to judge fish behavior when infected with parasites. Most people wait until a parasite visually presents, which in some cases can be too late. Some behaviors which indicate problems are: reclusiveness, sensitivity to light, twitching, hanging near water returns (which are oxygenated), flashing or rubbing on sand, coral, or rock, or in some cases, loss of appetite. Depends on the parasite which behavior will exhibit.

Looking through some of the info for your UV sterilizer you should be able to control "Ich if you have a flow rate of about 100 gph or 2 turnovers an hour for your tank. You don't say how you have it hooked up though and that is a big factor in how effective it will be. Personally I would have a small powerhead in bottom of your DT supplying water to the UV using a container to check the flow rate to make sure it's not to fast which would reduce the kill rate. The cysts are going to be attached basicly on every solid surface and can hatch out any where from 3 days to, in rare situations, 11 weeks. The larval stage is what's being killed by most treatment options. Here's some more reading: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa164

Hey Timfish
The uv is hooked up to the outlet of an Ehiem external filter which turns over 700ltrs an hour (175g). The ozone steriliser feeds air into the TMC skimmer. I have thought about getting a sump but to honest I don't like them, I prefer to see everything that is going on so I like it all visible
