UV Rays?? Need protection... Acrylic?

all-apologies

hey,

i have a 6 foot light fixture that had glass underneath it to protect the lights and i guess from UV rays.

it totally shattered and now i need to replace it.

i know that i need something in it that protects from UV rays being emitted to the tank.

Do i need to use glass or what? Can i use an acrylic sheet underneath? Will that protect from UV rays???

thanks,

just use a piece of tempered glass..

the acrylic could get heated too much being that close and become brittle and break.

and an fyi.. dont bump a thread that has no replies.. us regulars check for 0 reply posts to help.

Is it an HQI fixture? DE bulbs need UV shielding. SE bulbs don't. So it could have been a superficial piece of glass to help prevent water/saltcreep from getting inside... Or it could have acted as a UV shield.
