This setup would be easiest install for me.
Tee off return line thru the uv in front of sump then back up into valve flowing back down into sump.. is this acceptable?

That would work, but is it possible to have the outlet from the UV go back up as a second return to the tank? Do you have a flow meter on the UV?
I run two returns, both have flow meters, both go over the top edge of the tank, one has the UV in-line. Both have gate valves on them so I can control the flow thru the UV.

After years of getting rid of ick in systems the most effective setup I've found is having the UV on it's own pump set behind the rockwork at one end of the DT and the return at the top of the other end of the DT. For one the pump can be sized for the correct flow rate through the UV which is usually only a few hundred gallons an hour. Having the pump in the tank behind the aquascaping, from what I've seen, is quicker in reducing the larval parasite load in the system.
