so I am setting up my system. would you plumb it inline in the return to the display from the sump, or plumb it as an add-on which I can turn on when I need it.

The UV generally requires a flowrate lower than that of the return.

If you use the return pump, you should use a T or a Y. About 125-175 GPH for a 25W UV is about right.

Becareful not to push to much GPH through it, you need a long dwell time in the UV chamber to be effective. In this rare case, low flow is better.

How big is your tank? 25W may not be enough, depending on what you are trying to treat. Also what kind of flow are you planning on running through the UV chamber?

I have a used 65 gallon I am setting up. I am using a used 55 gallon in my basement as my sump. It will have bubble baffles, a refuge, etc. I am pumping up 15 feet from the basement. It wont have any 90's, just a straight shot. I decided to y in and out the 25 watt UV, I put ball valves on both outtakes of the Y so I can regulate flow through the UV. This was a great suggestion, thanks for the info. This way I can run it fulltime through the UV if the flow is low enough, otherwise I can partially block it to slow the flow.

I bought a Mag Drive 36 pump 3600gph.
