I just finished plumbing in a Pentair 40 watt sterilizer to my 150 gallon system. I have plumbed the eheim 1262 pump rated at 900 gph for the return from the sump. There are plumbed ball valves on the inlet and outlet of the sterilizer as well as a ball valve for a bypass with a check valve at the end of the system before it empties into the display tank. I am unsure of the flow rate currently but the eheim is rated at 900 gph (15 gpm) which is the upper end of the uv sterilizer recommendation. I was thinking I could close the bypass valve and tweak the inlet and outlet ball valves to the sterilizer and then measure how much water I get after 1 minute and multiply by 60 to get the gph flow rate through the sterilizer. and then if I open the bypass it seems that it would be a lower rate but possibly the inlet and outlet valves would keep the flow through the sterilizer at the needed level? Piping is 1 inch with 3 elbows and a check valve. The piping height is about 5 feet. Any recommendations for a visual flowmeter? I am looking for feedback on the setup as well.....
