UV sterilizer

I've seen some videos where people hooked up a uv sterilizer to clear up their water. I will usually run carbon for a few days to get the water crystal clear and then wait until it needs it again. I was wondering if a good uv sterilizer is as affective as running the carbon?

They're like apples and oranges. They both can clear your water, but they clear different things. Carbon takes care of most. UV will clear up a phytoplankton bloom, or after a glass cleaning. So carbon wins most of the time, and a better bang for the buck.

Thank you. By your responses, it seems like the uv sterilizer would not be worth it in my case. Right now, the carbon does work so I will continue using it.

Right on. I don't think you need UV right now. Keep it in mind for down the road. If you get dinoflagellates, UV is helpful.
