Most people think they are pretty worthless
i was told it takes out the good bacteria to is it true? cured ick problem but i have had five corals die too amonia was a little high but 0 now i have turned the temp up because i i bought new digital therm before this everything was at 77 now at 80 i think i need to bring temp back down?

It will kill just about anything in the water column. Most good bacteria is on your rocks and in your sand, not just floating freely. It would not really make a difference to your filtration. As far as temp, 80 is a good temp to be at.

I've had one on my tank since day one, and its doing great. I see no reason not to use one.
