uv strerilizer pump ??

i am adding a coralife 36w turbo twist 12x. I
its optimum flow is about 300 g/hr,Is it best to use just to use a straight pump or a canister filter with these?

Either. If you already have an inline filter or pump with a rating of 300hgh your fine.

no i dont already have one. i was trying to decide wether to buy a canister filter or just a plain pump. thought the extra filtration might be nice, but i am not sure how it would work with the sterilizer

Just put it in line with your return line from the filter.

I usually just hook them up to a MJ1200 and put the return back into the sump, works fine.
