i have hard that a uv light kills bad stuff in water and it kills good stuff to. they are not cheap so isnt it better to not bye one if its going to take out the good in the water?

"good stuff" lives on rock and sand surfaces, not much is freefloating, so it would not significantly affect "good stuff" :)

They can be beneficial with getting algae problems under control, but there can be a down side as well. Bob Fenner did some research about them and concluded that fish immune systems might be compromised with long term usage. I think he recommended using them infrequently or when a problem develops.

is a uv light very good? ive seen one for my tank for about 80 pound. dose it matter what make, are there good and bad ones?
