vacation/be-lated honeymoon ideas

We never got the honeymoon we wanted - we went to Miami to introduce Pauline and the kids to my parents. did the beach thing, etc.

We're now grandparents and have some cash to spend so I want to give Pauline a great vacation this year. I thought about Benadorm(sp) or Malaga Spain, but I'd rather not get into the $10K numbers. I'm thinking $5K numbers. We want spa, golf, snorkeling, shoping and preferably out of country since she just paid $200ish for a passport.

I've never been out of country except the Navy (20 yrs ago) so if anyone's been on a great vacation recently pls let me know.

I have heard that Spain is freaking incredible to visit.

Ever thought of Ireland? We went there two years ago on a "Pub and Folk Tour." It's a tour but it still gives you a lot of free time and it was just friggin' incredible. We LOVED it. Plus there's lots of drinking Don...right up your alley. hah hah.

With the Euro vs Dollar exchange being what it is:( , be prepared for anything across the ocean to be more expensive that you think. Australia is our dream vacation I just hope that when we make it there I'm still young enough to really enjoy it.:D :bum:

Sounds like a lot of fun Don. I hope to one day be able to travel outside the country. There are just so many beautiful places I don't know where to start. A good friend of mine is a travel agent in Atlanta. He travels himself alot and knows all the good places and the places you don't want to go. He could make sure you didn't end up in some dive on the wrong side of the city. He is a really cool guy and would shoot you straight. If you would like his contact info let me know. It won't matter that he is in ATL - he does most of his work by computer anyway. Hope this helps.

It is amazing what you can afford once you shut down your 300G reef tank. :)

The Euro is nuts compared to 3 yrs ago (0.95) but it's been steady at (1.25-1.40[now]) for the past 2 yrs. I pay a lot of bills in Euros at work. This is one reason I'm thinking to avoid Europe until it goes back to 1:1 or close.

A travel agent is probably a smart idea. I get the "remote" concept since I do the same thing with cargo all day. PM to you Pat. I'd rather sit down with an agent and look at their computer screen but some phone calls and emails will accomplish the same.

Australia is our dream vacation too. But that will have to wait for more cash because you dont want to do that on a budget. We're considering Hawaii (shorter flight, friend on the island too).

Where's Mike T? I wonder if he ever checks the board anymore...

I had a lot of fun in Hawaii. It is definitely beautiful! You still get the out of U.S. feeling a bit going there. The flight there though was quite long and not very fun.

My best trip was to Jamaica. We stayed at a Sandals Resort. The all-inclusive trip is the way togo. You don't have to worry about tipping, all drinks and food is included, many free events daily. Our resort had 7 restaurants on it. We just had to make reservations. The Dunn's River Villaggio is the one I recommend. It is the nicest one in Jamaica and has its own golf course nearby. It is an adult only resort. We went without kids and enjoyed having a quiet day next to the swimup pool bar. Another nice thing is the flight there is short. You can fly out in the morning and still be able to enjoy the resort that day.

We went to Cabo San Lucas last year...Big party and fun...Caught alot of fish (red snapper), you can catch Marlin as well....Direct flights out of Atlanta

Best part about it was the whale watching....We rode 4-wheelers on the beach and spotted several...While fishing we saw dolphins, rays jumping out of the water, and a sealions. They would steal our fish and our little amigo would yell at them in spanish....

It was alot of fun but do not, DRINK THE WATER....I had a margarita or two and almost died the first day, we had to call a doctor to the room. He gave me a shot in the rear and I was better the next day...I don't think I have ever been that sick.

Its were the desert meets the ocean so that is really cool, but no diving...You are not supposed to swim because the rip currents are really really bad there. But you can go to Cabo Wabo....

I have always wanted to go to Jamaica though....

We're booked to Cancun "Blue Bay all inclusive", except golf, spa, swim with dolphins, charter boat, and dinner boat cruise... My boss's daughter went there for her honeymoon and said it was great.
