Value of Blacktip reef shark?

A friend has a blacktip that's about 2ft long that he is debating on selling. It's been in a aquarium for a few years (not sure the exact time) & he's wondering what the going rate is for them.

Anyone have a idea what he should ask for a I believe 2+ft blacktip in excellent health?

Very few people have tanks large enough tank for these sharks so it may be difficult to sell.

You probably won't be able to get anything for it. Chances are, if you (he) wants to get rid of it, you're going to have to donate it to a local public aquarium/zoo.

If that's what you/he wants to do, I'd suggest contacting Jay Hemdal, he's aquarium curator at Toledo Zoo.

NYAquatic.com is currently selling an 18" one for $1,500. Again like people already said, the key is finding a buyer that can actually accommodate one.

I doubt u will be able to sel it , he's at a size where few people need such a big shark.

thanks... I did get a PM from someone who has a tank that would easily hold this bad boy. Hopefully he can work something out with my friend & the shark gets a new home.

The shark is in a 20ft x 10-20 ft (I forget which) x 4-5 ft tank, going to be a PITA to get out of there. Owner is a NBA player & was transferred.... NBA lockout isn't helping his situation. A freind services the tanks which are all being torn apart
