Vase Pico Tank

Hey all,
So I've seen a few images of these and they look really cool. I've noticed that the basic idea is to use an airstone for water movement and people tend to keep them covered. Any idea why this is? I have a 110 main tank and this could be a fun small tank however I'd like to know what I'm getting in to. Can any one point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the help! This is exactly what im looking for. I think it would be a fun project but i just need more info and a build thread would be helpful. Thanks again.
