Venturi silencers?

Hi I have a DAS EX-1 skimmer, its a recirculation type. Somebody once suggested I remove the silencer off of the air intake for more air. My question is does anybody think this is a good idea or bad idea or doesn't really matter? I have ran it both ways and the only real diffenece I see is that with it off the water level rises slightly. But I have been thinking lately that it was designed to have that on so maybe I should leave it on. It is a little noisier with it off but that doesn't bother me. I just want the best performance.

So my question is people with venturi lines with silencers do you leave them on or take them off? And if you do leave it on is it only because of the noise?

take it off... if the noise starts bothering you, make one of these:

The noise doesn't bother me. I just wanted to know if anybody else took it off, or if most people did. Or if anybody left it on and why. It does seem like it would restrict some air flow with it on.

thats a pretty good idea though.
