Venustus Angel

Hello guys,

I'm hoping to receive 2 venustus angels by the end of the month, so was wondering how i should go about acclimatizing them.....

Was wondering if I should put them both into the same qt or separate qt's?

Would probably add a small chromis to keep them company.

Any ideas?

I only QT wild caught clowns, so take this for what it is worth.

I was lucky with mine, in that it started eating prepared foods within minutes of being released into the tank. But, from my research, they are normally difficult to get eating, so if your QT is barren I see that being an issue for this angel. So, I would suggest either putting it into your DT, or having plenty of live rock in your QT for them to pick at -- either though mine eats like it a pig, it still picks at the rocks all day long.

Hi Todd,

I'm not averse to releasing them in the display directly. However, I do already have a Lemon Peel, Flame and Moon Beam in there. Was hoping that I could get them to eat and be somewhat accilimated to aquarium life before I'd release them there.

My sump (36x18x12 inches) is an option, its pretty big with a shallow sandbed and live rock, no real algal growth. Any idea how they are with sps?

So you do recommend that they be kept together wherever they are?

What size tank do you have?

Mine likes to nip a bit at SPS -- but haven't noticed any damage. Loves to eat open brains.

Have a 260gal (no sps with the 3 dwarves) and a 45gal with sps (and small, few fish).

I believe the tank would be big enough for the lot them to get along ok.

I did get one venustus about a month back. Was hassled in the beginning by the 3 dwarves but was really troubled by a tomini tang, which i really didn't see coming. Tomini was removed and given away. However, he never really ate and lost him about a week later.

I would be worried about putting the pair in the 260 with the other dwarfs. Might be different if they were in there first, but I have a feeling they will get bullied and stop eating in there.

What all is in the 45?

The 45 has a pseudochromis fridmani, royal gramma and a carpenters fairy wrasse.

The earlier venustus was left alone after a couple days, when the tomini was removed. The remaining dwarves didn't bother him much.

Really love these fish and would hate to lose'em. BTW, yours is beautiful!!
