I've read quite a few threads on various sites that would tell me that venustus are subtropical, deepwater fish and require a tank temp. around 75 to be kept long term.
How true is this? I can imagine fish collected from japan would naturally be used to cooler temperature, but what about the Philippine fish?
LADD also seems to get their venustus from Vanuatu.
Now, going off fish base I wouldn't say these are deep water fish judging by the depth they have been reported at. I thought they were more rock-hugging cave fish than deep water.
Does anyone have any information regarding this?
I ask because I recently added a venustus to my reef, but I usually keep my tank between 79-80 just because it's easiest to maintain that temperature.
I do not know where my fish was collected, but judging from the price I'm pretty sure it was not Japan.
