So I bought one of these. Problem is the connection fittings for hard pipe are metric. Any ideas where to buy metric pipe? I tried to buy fittings but they will not work. Thanks.

BRS sells metric/standard PVC adapters as well as Vertex conversion unions.

They shouldn't be metric, they should come with US sized fittings. I bought one right from BRS and just glued slip barb fittings right into the unions. No special adapter or replacement Union needed

The connection on the outflow should be 1/2" at least it is on mine.

You can take regular US pipe and sand the outside to fit, have done this in the past, just sand enough to get it in the pipe, glue it up and your good to go

The connection I have is 16mm JIS. I can sand down pipe and probably will. I like to use proper pieces if available before I make a modification.
