I just got my off brand vert. grip for my D7000. Givin the rediculous price difference between this Chinese knock off, and the Nikon original, it was hard for me to believe it was worth its weight in used toilet paper. but the reviews for this knock-off keep shining on and on. So I openned my wallet and paid the measly $32 + shipping.

I set it up and goofed with it for a while and this thing is just plain solid and functions flawlessly!

Not sure Ive ever seen a worthy product where the knock off is so much more affordable than the name brand.

see for yourself...

They are the bomb. I have the Nikon one for my D200. So you know, if you're out shooting sometime, and you take a shot and the mirror locks up, the contacts need cleaned. Scared the crap out of me. It happened on both my cameras till I found out what caused it. Oh yea, if you tripod a lot, get an L-Bracket. Kirk makes the best. You'll wonder how you got along without it.

Hmmm. If you remove the grip and reboot the camera without it, wouldnt the mirror reset? What did you use to clean the contacts?

Thanks for the tip

That's what you have to do, but I never thought of the grip being the cause till I did a search. It happened to both cameras within a few weeks. I used Dioxit to clean them.

Jay, here's what the L-Plate looks like.

It gives you the ability to flip the camera from vertical to horizontal and vice versa by just unlatching the quick release. My L-plate matches my frotto tripod. No quick release plates are needed.

Depending on your ball head, you may need to use plates. Mine matches a few different ball head brands. Just depends.
