Ouch, I am sorry to hear that. Made me get up and check my tank after reading this thread.

No problem Dale. I'll bring one up next time I am in Sac. Is your Aquacontroller functioning properly?

yes I ran a system check on it. Then calibrated the probe it was off by 7 degrees. I lost some colonies that were 5yrs old and some stuff that was vcery hard to find. Not sure I want to do it anymore just lost to many pieces

Look at it this way, you can start over with new frags. When I set up my tank, I was a lot more excited putting new frags in the tank than I am now. You can relive the excitement all over again!

I hear ya Dale. The good news is that there is always something new and upcoming around the corner.

Everyone who reefs for a while will encounter disaster, even the "pros". Its just a part of the hobby.

Keep your head up, even the best of us have bad days.

Drop me a PM when your ready, ill send you out a frag pack to get you up and running.

Good luck and hang in there.

(dont know if this is what you did, but...)
I see a lot of people telling people to buy a controller, and then set your heater all the way up so that the controller has 100% control. This sounds like a BAD idea to me.

If you want the temp at 80, set the controller at 80, and the heater at 81. That way your tank doesnt get real hot if the probe fails.

Another reason to use smaller heaters too.

Sorry for your loss...it really stinks.

Or heater never came on, but nither did the chiller,.....

I am sorry to hear this man, good luck on the rebuild.

Perhaps a Granger single stage tempcontroler hooked up to an alarm when temp gets too high would be a good saftey precaution in the future. Like Aquacontroler set to kick chiller on at 80, alarm on the $25 Granger controler goes off at 81.

HTH,
Whiskey
