I have an ARO 440 watt balast running 4 24" bulbs, correction it's now um not running three. I'll explain

Upon the change of canopy's I made today when I turned the lights on one began to smoke. Holy Crap I pulled the plug and looked for the obvious nicked wired none to be found anywhere, I work on alarms and cable all kinds of equipment every day, but I'm unfimiliar w/lighting and to be very honest AC, I'm a DC guy.

To complete the nightmare my ballast is on but my three remaining lights are not.

The ballast is less than a year old works on a timer thats on 10 hours a day.

Any knowledge would be greatly app.

may not be a nicked wire, but instead an endcap that got water in it or has bad contacts to the bulb/wires.

Yep exactly what I thaught, so I plan to replace the endcap.

But
why are the remaining three still not coming on? they flicker.

earlier they came on lights where all on and one was smokin.

do I need all four bulbs plugged in for it to work?

all 4 need to be good working bulbs or it won't fire correctly. also, hopefully you haven't tested too much because the ballast may have been damaged. I would wait for the new endcaps for that bulb and if it doesn't fire i'd contact them via their forum about possibly sending it in.

Do all the bulbs have to be the same wattage for the ballast to work the only bulb I can find is a 46.5"

dont all have to be the same. the way the ballast works is 440 watts of combined wattage or 16' of combined length (whichever comes first), anything under doesn't matter in the least.

thank you,
some how I do not understand but they came on.

Miracle

Thanks for all your help
