Vid of my Ocellaris feeding her gbta

She's usually a bit more enthusiastic...but you can see her bring a piece of shrimp over to the anemone and drop it in. She'll eat her fill first..and when she's done whatever i drop in is brought to the gbta. I was doing everthing with one hand..so it's a bit shaky. She usually puts the shrimp directly on a tentacle with her mouth. Sometimes she just swims over and just releases it close to the anemone.

Works for me. Thanks for sharing - very nice! That's a great bonded pair there--one of the sings I look for that they are paired is that the female allows the male to feed (rather than agressively taking food away from him). I think I saw twice in the video that she waits for him to drop the food before taking it to the nem.

I've read an interesting idea about why they feed the anemone: since clownfish are poor swimmers, when they come across a piece of food that is too large for them to eat (or they are full), it becomes a danger to them (attracting larger fish who might eat them, etc), so the "safest" thing they can do is to drop the food into the anemone, where it will be consumed and hidden to prevent larger fish from seeing or smelling it. Of course this is in addition to the idea that selection favors clownfish that take care of their anemones because clowns without nems don't last long in the wild!

Interesting matt. I've never heard of that angle. She has taken to this male very well. It's a different relationship though than the first one i got from you. The first one gave her very enthusiastic submissive shakes from the beginning. This one is a bit larger, and is much more headstrong. It took him a couple days really before he started the shaking. I think because of that she is not nearly as accepting of him. She was much more tolerant of the first one being in her anemone. She tolerates this one, but he is chased out and scorned (for lack of a better word) routinely. He actually prefers to "host" a digi in front of the anem.

she use to until I got the pinkish purple hairy shrooms (top center behind the kenya tree). I got those at the swap last year from some lady, I think from Kentucky, cant remember her name. Both clowns hosts those now. They are in them right now. But my camera batteries are dead.

OK.. so I was just impatient... had to load it good..... I heard that cat... pretty cool to watch her feed the GBTA. I would so want that someday...

I've noticed this behavior with my clowns, and thought the newer one had taken over the role as the female-to-be.

My clowns are almost the same size, and it's not easy identifying the dominant one. They both do the shake to each other.
Sometimes, the older one seems dominant...other times, the newer one seems dominant.

We're all confused.

with my 2, the smaller one (the one i got from fishboy) is always doin' the shakes around the larger one. The larger one (female i guess?) I have had her for a little over 2 years now. My brother had her first for about 7-8 months, then i took her.

One of my maroon's feds "her" anemone all of the time. Too bad she won't let her friend anywhere near her. They have agreed to disagree and spend all of their time on opposite sides of the tank. The smaller one only has a 1.5 inch gbta clone to host in.
