Vinegar will quickly become your friend in this hobby. It's used for everything from cleaning glass and equipment to reducing PH. I always have a gallon of the cheap stuff from Walmart around.
I take out my pumps about every 6 months.....skimmer and Mag Return....and run them in a 50/50 water vinegar mix for about 24 hours.....this helps break down all the buildup of stuff on the pump shafts and impellars.....works well
If you have a kalk reactor then you would want to run 100% vinegar and its dirt cheap at any store
As another arrow in your aquarium quiver, an even better way (in my opinion) of reducing PH is plain carbonated water. The cheaper brands tend to be the best, as they're often times just CO2 and water, which is ideally what you want. The effect is almost instantaneous, and you're not adding acetate to the water. I mainly use the PH reducing effect of vinegar when I make my kalkwasser.
