Virtual Swap 08

I want to test a new possible feature of our website.

I want to conduct a live virtual frag swap.
It will work something like this:

You will send a photo of the coral you have, I will create a special page with your coral on it as well as your names.

On a date to be announced we will meet on line in our Chat Room, after everyone is there I will post the link to the page with the coral on them. Everyone there can then either talk openly or PM each other to work out deals for trade, or sale. You will then make shipping or drop off arrangements with each other.

If you think it's something you would like to try, let me know and I will post further details in a few days.

If it works expect more of them in the future.

(as of this time). THIS test IS ONLY OPEN TO CVRC MEMBERS
Not a member yet? Become one ;)

Now Questions?

Seems like this could be a continuous live swap. All interested members post what they have to trade. You could just log on the the CVRC site and "browse" members corals up for trade. See something you like??? Contact that member. I guess that would kinda be like the CVRCLFS though.

CVRCLFS----Yes your right it would also be like other websites out there now, that allow you to list and sell. It would also fall under a business category so we wont be doing that.

The idea and purpose here would be much simpler and geared toward fun more than profit and to promote open exchange of health aquacultured coral in the area ie to grow our community. ANY CVRC Member would be free to participate as long as he/she had a valid CVRC#
It will be a way to get rid of fast growing coral and only on a semi-regular basis, much like live swaps it would be something members would anticipate rather than just take for granted.

I agree semi regular is better. If it were all the time it would create lots of problems. And would simply become an online store where anyone could get stuff. I think a few days before the regular club meeting is a great time to do it. That way the exchange could take place before or after the meeting, which would leave more demo time, and cut down on the necessity of shipping which would be less stress on the coral involved

JMO.

Good idea , before a meeting would be perfect.

Anyone wanting to test this out:

Pick no more than 5 coral that you will be willing to fragout and bring/send.

Send a LINK to a picture of each single coral(s) with its name present along with your name to jomarspets@aol.com Make sure your screen name and actual name is in mail. Only registers CVRC members will be permitted to attend this swap.

Pictures MUST be links to photobucket, personal ftp spaces etc.

If I get say 20-25 frags (thats only 5 people with 5 frags each or so), I will make the page and announce the date.

I already have 2 members onboard.

Lets hear from the rest of you,
In or out?

I think I could come up with 5 frags, most of my corals are very common (for now). Where can I get some frag plugs?

frag plugs or reef rubble eather will do, reef rubble is a lot cheaper though. I believe Phil had some homemade frag plugs in the past.

That's 20 frags, enough to test it then.
If your participating, I need this done by Next Monday the sooner the better:

I suggest you upload the pics to photobucket and name them as such. Send me an e-mail with the link along with something like this:

CORAL TYPE- frag, colony
CORAL NAME- (example)Xenia Elongata
SELLER- RCname&(Real Name Here)
PRICE OR SWAP- SWAP only

Make sure the subject for the mail is:

"VIRTUAL SWAP 08"

I'll do the rest

KOOL I will be in on the acquiring end if I get my tank going in time if not then count me in on the next one.

My only quandry is what if we don't get very many people available to get on when the live swap is active... couldn't we make it last for more than just a few hours? Also, I think we should do this before the next meet... hey Phil I need some zoos...

This short time frame might not work for me with house construction. I'm taking care of all the loose ends this week and the drywall finisher is starting in the next few days. I'm also leaving for vacation on friday so as bad as I want to do this I just don't know if I'm going to get to it in the time I have.

No problem, we should have enough to test this at least and make sure it works smoothly.

Just like any swap it will need to be advertised and reminders sent to all members the day before and the day of. I'm not sure how long the actual event will last or what time of day it will take place yet. When I know I will post the date for the test.

Ron if you call me you have the number I will send reminder email. but as I do not get to get on everyday I might not see the time and date in time to send them unless you call me. Will do my best to send reminders either way.

ok maybe I'm missing something here but when are we doing this again? Also are we limited to only 5 frags? I know Roger could list a bit more as well as Phil as could I. I'm getting rid of alot of softies at the moment and fish... what about fish eh?
