I'm a newb to the DSLR world i own a Nikon D40X that i have taken a few nice pics with the kit lens.
I bought a Vivitar 100mm macro lens with the 1:1 macro adapter which i have to use in manual mode on the D40X. The lens puts me where i'd like to be in focus but when i take the picture all i have is a blank screen when i try to view the image i took.
Could someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

im pretty sure that the lense you have is for 35mm SLR only and will not work with a DSLR. I also know that the D40X uses a small image sensor and not all lenses work with it.

The beauty of owning a Nikon is all the lenses can be used. You just have to shoot in manual adjusting f/stop or shutter speed as need. Kinda like the older cameras of the 60's and 70's.

The reason your photos are black is because (using film terminology) not enough light to make the exposure. There acyually is enough lisght just adjus the f/stop or shutter speed until you get an image then bracket exposure using the setting you found as a guide.
