vlamigni tang and unicorn tang

ive got a vlamigni tang (about 4 inches) inside my FOWLR tank and just added a unicorn tang (about 5.5 inches) to my tank. the vlamigni wouldnt leave the unicorn alone even though its significantly larger. i rearranged my live rock and sepparated the vlamigni to allow the unicorn to properly acclimate but whenever they see each other they change colors and attempt to fight through the separator. i had the same problem with the vlamigni when it was first introduced to the tank with my sailfin tang(about 6 inches) but eventually they left each other alone what are my chances of having these two co-exist? any suggestions?

no guaratees, but try this: pull out the vlamingi for a while, while you re-aquascape. move things around quite a bit. turn off the light, and return the tang. you added the unicorn to the vlamingi's territory, so change the territory so he doesn't perceive it as his any more. the longer you can keep the vlamingi out and let the unicorn get adjusted the more even it will be.

if you have them in your 90, I'm not sure if your tank is really big enough for these two together, even at their relatively small sizes...

vlamingi's get Huge...FAST. You need a MUCH bigger tank as soon as possible. Unicorn is basically the same fish. So you are going to need an 8' tank minimum!

I agree with jmccown. I meant even NOW the 90 may not be large enough for both!

they are both pretty mellow for tangs, i have a 14 inch vlamingii and a 6 inch juvenile unicorn and they school

yeah that tank will run small really soon. both tangs are somewhat passive ecspecially for tangs. But the fore mentioned rearranging will help some. Tangs will fight for awhile till they figure out whos boss.

the vlamigni is going to be a monster quickly. I have 1 on a 200 gallon for about 4 years. he/she has gone from about 6 inches to ~14 inches.

They are very strong, very hardy fish. I have had no problems with this fish picking on anything.

...you wont need wave makers or anything in your tank...LOL! you will see why soon enough. Mine is very aggressive maybe even a little crazy when eating. Splash water OUT of the tank.

Plan a tank upgrade soon. my 200 is way to small for my fish...FYI.

My wife bought me one at maybe 1.5". In 6 months he is almost 9 inches. I cannot believe how fast this fish grows. He is at least an inch maybe 1.5" thick too. VERY healthy fish. Beautiful, personable fish nonetheless.
