Congrats. Bet he's liking the big space.

What kind of settings do you normally go back to when taking tank pictures? Rarely any of mine turn out like that.

Exposure: 0.011 sec (1/90)
Aperture: f/2.8
Focal Length: 16 mm
Exposure: +0.67
ISO Speed: 400

It all depends on the tank. this tank was lit by 3 400 watt metal halides. Shot in manual and adjusted settings accordingly. I used to do more close up "fish portraits" but Im liking the wide angle approach more and more

I wonder if a fish with good memory could remember their previous owner if they saw them at an aquarium. I imagine that would be a fascinating experience.

Great shots, glad it worked out. I think it's pretty cool to go see your fish after a few years like that... wonder what it'll be like in 10 years.. or 20... well kiddies, that there fish and I go way back...

On the way back from Macna, friends stopped at the Camden aquarium in NJ. The behind the scenes look showed these and many other "large tangs" in every single sump, system etc... When asked, they were told that every single one of those fish came from hobbiest who could no longer keep the fish in their systems. Now the aquarium no longer is able to accept "donations" of these fish as finally they are out of space.

Beautiful fish. I would feel a real sense of pride knowing that I had done right by the fish, that it was prospering so nicely and that others are able to enjoy him as well. :)

Its really cool that you have the opportunity to go back and see him from time to time and check on his progress. Beautiful Vlamingi

Big +1 I just bought a 3 inch juvi Vlamingi for my 8ft reef, and I plan on doing the same thing when the time comes. ;)

kudos to having a great fish! I think they are quite personable (its those big eyes!) Though this probably isnt the best example. keeping the end in mind is important but to assume that every vlamingi is destined for a public aquarium is problematic. I think I was quite lucky to have him included in a display (the typically planning/stocking going into a display is well defined and are not usually changed). Most aquariums have stopped accepting hobbyist donations (overcrowding and other reasons). Contact aquariums well before hand to see if they will have space/ or an exhibit available. Enjoy your awesome little guy because they grow up before you know it!

Wow your picture are awesome !!!

The Vlamingii is my favorite tang with the Sohal and looking at your picture make me sad that I would not be able to have one :( He's awesome !!!

Keep the picture coming :)

Very nice fish and photography skills there! Do you think you can send me high resolution versions so I can use them as my desktop back ground? Thanks in advance! I was also wondering what kind of set up are you using to shoot these pictures, lenses, camera and so on. Did you have a flash on the second batch of pictures? All in all, very impresive!
