Vlamingi Tang

I have read disputing size requirements for a vlamingi tang. I have a 220 that is 72" long and 30" tall. Is that enough room? I know they can get 24" in the ocean but I don't know if the can reach that size in captivity. Looking at an 8"-9" for $150. Thoughts or advice is needed. Thanks everyone.

That seems expensive.

I have decided not to get it. I don't want to take the chance of it getting too big and I would have to find a new home for him. My family gets attached to things and I don't want to break a kids heart in a few years.

Good call. 500 gallons or larger would be a good tank for them. They look cramped in the 300-400 gallon tanks I've seen them in.

Its like buying a puppy. But do you have the time to interact and take care of your new puppy. Is the puppy going to be caged all day... Should all fish stay in the ocean. I purchased one because they love them some bubble algae. I mean crazy stupid love to eat bubble algae. Started out as a 3-4" baby Vlamingi. Now a little over a year later. I have a 9-10" fraging machine in my 93 cube. Begging for pellets all the time. If I don't say hi or acknowledge Vlamingi each day I walk by the tank. The fish lets me know it by splashing water out of the cube. "See Never buy a rimless tank" The fish only interacts with me. Hides from everyone else until it warms up to your presences.

I have a 220 setting in my basement just need a few more items before I kick start it. Yes because I've grown attached to this fish. Healthy interactive they are a very cool fish. I've seen them in a lot worse circumstances. AS long as you can keep the fish happy. I don't see the trouble in a 220 as long as there is enough open water. Mine exercises in the flow of my Vortechs as fast as it can. Its funny to watch. But make sure you also have rock work for it to hide. They are a complete spaz at times. -rams

My guy has been in there seven years. Probable a female. I think she has stopped growing at about thirteen inches. You think it looks bad?
