Vlamingi Tang

Guys can I put this tang with my blonde naso and my yellow tang? My blonde is about 4"-5" and my yellow is med sized.

In the 150g in your sig? vlamingis get HUGE, and they get that way FAST. I wouldn't get a Vlamingi unless I was able to house him for a very long time.

Someone in my local reef club just posted pics of his - 12-13"!!

I'm trying to find the thread where someone posted before and after pics about 5-6 months apart, and you could see how much these guys grow..

I saw that when I did a search. This fish is 4"-5". In my 150 with alot of rock work do you think he'll outgrow it in 2yrs? When my current tang selection what other tang can I add without conflict?

I'm no expert, but from what I understand, the Naso isn't really a problem, but the yellow might be. I'd avoid any of the Zebrasoma tangs.

You could look at - Kole, Tomini, Chevron..off the top of my head. A Regal/Hippo would work, too. They get pretty big, but grow slower than Vlamingi, plus you can get them at the LFS very small.

I have all three of those fish in my 400...and they get along fine. The yellow tang pays no attention to the two Nasos. As the vlamingi has grown, the N. elegans and the N. vlamingi are starting to get a bit competitive at algae feeding time.

BUT...the real issue is that you simply can't have those fish in a 150....especially if you have a lot of rock work. I'm seriously concerned that I can't keep these same fish in my 400 and my tank is wide open for swimming. Vlamingis grow large and grow fast. You would not even get 8 months before you both you and the fish would not be happy with the situation.

I had one for a while in a 350 g FOWLR tank and I had to give it away after less than a year. They are eating/growing machines. You won't get 8 months in a 150. Sorry. But, if I ever go into the 600 gallon tanks, I would love to repeat.

You could try a Purple Tang, but be prepared if it doesn't go well. I have a Purple and a Yellow together in my tank, but I bought them together. Not sure if the original owner bought them together or not.
